Eating out in Kigali Rwanda

Monday (April 19th) – Sol e Luna

Every monday they have ‘pub quiz’ where expats get together and compete in a trivia game in teams. The menu is about 4 pages of pizza followed by a page of pastas and lots of imported beer. We lost, coming in about 7 out of maybe 11 teams. We knew we lost when our answer for “cocktail that was developed by Ngiam Tong Boon in 1915″ was “Shirley Temple”

Tuesday  (April 20th) - Khana Khazana

We found this place after failing with a couple other places first. We took a taxi to the famous Chez Robert, which after seeing the pestiferous buffet and tasting their only wine they had from it’s box we skipped out and tried a place up the road Shokola. Shokola, looked awesome, the menu had great looking food and the atmosphere was nice but we discovered they didn’t serve beer or wine, so we noted we should try it for lunch and then headed to Khana Khazana. Khana Khazana has some of the best indian food I’ve had in a while and they had a decent south african wine choices.

Wednesday & Thursday (April 21 & 22) – Great Wall Restaurant

This is an outdoor 2nd floor chinese restaurant about  half a kilometer from the Laico hotel where we did the first week of training. Most of the menu is scary and its hard to tell what the dishes are when the options are “Sliced Chicken”, “Diced Chicken” or “Piece of Chicken”. But the “Sliced Chicken” and atmosphere was good enough for us to come back the second day. Advice: Avoid the hot sauce in the open dish on the table, pretty sure that was the culprit of 2 days of stomach issues.

Friday  (April 23) – Papyrus

We went here for lunch and it was pretty good though little slow even for Rwanda standards. We all where happy with our pizzas but I personally avoided the pastas which looked like a wet mess.

Saturday (April 24) – Shokola (lunch)
